After my
negative experience with
Coca-Cola C2, I had a lot more hope for
Pepsi Edge. Like Coke's product, this beverage is targeted at the low-carb market, heralding "full flavor - 50% less sugar."
First off, I must admit I'm a
Pepsi fan at heart; I've always enjoyed the "runner-up" beverage when given a choice. I have to cheer for the underdog, and frankly, it just tastes better. That said, I think Pepsi's branding is better than Cokes. "Edge" comes off as a lot more bold than the confusing "C2". The color scheme on the packaging also has a large element of silver, which is similar to
Pepsi One, the beverage that Edge is most likely replacing.
There is no aspartame in Pepsi Edge. In fact, it uses a simpler blend of sweeteners when compared to C2, including HFCS and sucralose. Theoretically this produces a better taste, but it also gives the drink 2 grams more sugar and 3 more calories than Coke C2. But who cares about all that... how did it taste?
Amy's reaction above pretty much sums it up. It didn't taste very good at all. I'd say it was just as bad as C2. Despite all the hype about new sweeteners and the like, it still had a rancid aftertaste. I often drink
Crystal Light, which has artificial sweeteners, but can't stand diet carbonated beverages. That continues to be the case here.
Cool bottle, though!
