The Great Tanner Road Trip: Good times and tunes in Nashville
Well, we arrived in Nashville around 4 p.m. yesterday and checked into our hotel. We're staying downtown at a pretty nice place for 2 nights, thanks to some deal searching Amy did in advance on Priceline.com.
![]() Renaissance Nashville... right downtown! ![]() The famed "Batman" building (I wonder when it will finally get yucky AT&T branding) I must admit that it was great to sleep on a really soft bed last night vs. inside a tent without air conditioning like we have for the past week! ![]() View from our hotel window (That's the Nashville Public Library below) Why are we in Nashville? Well, because we love Nashville! It's one of our favorite cities to visit, mainly for the great live music you can experience, but also for the unique culture, food, and storied history. We've been here many, many, many times for good reason! We continue to come to explore new things we've yet to experience... as well as enjoy some of our favorite things. ![]() Good food at Cabana We grabbed some dinner at a recommended local place called Cabana, which they describe as "a chic veranda, wonderful Southern comfort food, and great prices." The chef specializes in game, so we went out on a limb and each owned something different. Amy ordered the Coffee & Coco Crusted Venison, "with butternut squash, vanilla risotto, spicy wilted greens & lingonberry sauce. Meanwhile, I tried the Roasted Maple Leaf Duck Breast, featuring "sweet potato hash, kohlrabi-apple slaw, & blackberry bbq sauce." Both meals... excellent. The environment was pretty cool too. If you have a large group, you can sit in a cabana-like booth with a curtain to provide you a little more intimacy. ![]() Red Stick Ramblers at the Station Inn One of those "favorite things" we like to do in Nashville is catching live music at the Station Inn, a small hole-in-the-wall establishment in a growing area of Nashville called The Gulch. It's pretty much the mecca for live bluegrass and roots music. We've been here 3 times before, twice to see one of our favorite western swing groups, The Time Jumpers... and once for a weekly "Bluegrass Jam" they host. This time around it was something different. A CD release party for a group we've never actually heard of prior to this trip, the Red Stick Ramblers. They hail from Louisiana, and have a sound that mixes traditional Cajun, western swing, blues, and jazz. We really enjoyed the 2 hour block of music they performed. Good stuff. Their music is being added to our iPod soon! The music was great, but it was a late night, so we were glad to sleep in a little bit on those really nice beds this morning! |
