The Great Tanner Road Trip: Orange Team: Because I'm not a wimp!

Well, it's been almost a month since Steve and I returned home from our crazy road trip through 13 states (Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Illinois). We've finally had some time to relax and unwind since we didn't get that on our actual vacation!!

Mission: SPACE at Epcot

However, I couldn't let any more time go by before informing all of you that I braved the Orange Team on Mission: SPACE and I'm alive to tell about it! (There are two versions to this ride.) Since Steve is such a wimp, I joined Karen and Brian on our final half-day at Walt Disney World!!

Green Team is for wimps like Steve. I rode the Orange Team version!

In all honesty, we were all a bit nervous. I really didn't want to be sick since Steve and I would be driving many hours in the car on our way to Georgia that day. Karen and Brian both had flights back to Indiana later as well. Right when Karen called saying they were ready to go on the ride, I was over in Club Cool, where I had in my hand a cup of soda from Italy known as Beverly. As we learned on previous trips to Disney, this stuff is disgusting! I am SO glad that Karen called when she did so I wouldn't have that nauseous drink sitting in the pit of my stomach.

Brian, Amy, and Karen get ready to ride

I really can't say that this ride is all that fun. Even with the spinning and G-forces that are added when riding on the Orange team. You just listen to Gary Sinise talk to you and you do what he says. And the actual ending is pretty lame. You have this insane, "not as planned" landing on Mars where you think your ship is going to fall over the edge and then it's over. Um, okay!

Yes, it's an Orange Team launch ticket

The biggest difference I noticed between the Green Team and the Orange Team was the effect of the G-force on my eyes. Tears were forming and running down my cheeks, which was a weird feeling. We also noticed that when we moved our arms, we felt more pressure on them, probably because of all the spinning.

After the ride ended, our compartment malfunctioned! The controls did not move back so that we could get out. We were stuck. We all started freaking out a bit and yelling for help. We had just survived the ride and certainly did not want to ride it again! When the cast member finally came to help, she pushed some buttons which only made the doors close as if we were going to go on the ride once more! More panic waved over us. But finally, the doors opened again AND the controls moved back so we could get out. We were so anxious to get the heck out of there.

We all felt a bit weird afterwards, but for me, the feeling went away within 15 minutes or so. I WILL say that we all were very careful to follow the advice that was given ahead of time (and what Steve had heard as well). The advice was to keep looking at the screen and not look around or at each other. Apparently, once you take your eyes off of the screen and look around, your equilibrium gets screwed up and you are more prone to nausea. We were all very conscious to heed this advice which seemed to help.

I don't think I'll be riding this ride ever again, but at least I can say that I rode it and lived to tell about it.

Boy this sure does NOT seem like a Disney ride in anyway. This sounds more like a really cool Fair ride, not a ride meant for the whole family at the "Happiest Place on Earth".
