TurkeyTracker 2007 - Thursday

The day of reckoning arrived on Thursday -- Thanksgiving -- after a week of build up to Amy cooking her first turkey. In the end, she rocked!

Amy presents the cooked bird

We actually got up early on Thanksgiving morning and headed over to our church for a "Run, Walk, Stroll" event through the neighborhood.

Yes, it's snowing

Very cold walk though the park and other places

This was followed by a short time of singing and sharing. I should mention that we got a little snow overnight, and it was still flurrying pretty good in the morning. Overall, it was early... but fun.

Then it was back home to kick the cooking into overdrive. Everything came together quite well for the turkey, actually... almost too well.

Carving the turkey

We used an oven bag and were surprised how much faster this enabled the cooking process. The bird got done a lot quicker than we estimated, but that was OK.

My sister Karen, Amy's Mom Karen, and Amy's Step-Dad Ernie

In the end, we had 10 folks total for our Thanksgiving meal, and the food was excellent. The turkey came out really flavorful and juicy, so Amy nailed that on her first try... nice job! In fact, there wasn't much left of it, as everyone seemed to enjoy it quite a bit.

Amy's Brother Greg, Amy, my empty seat, and my sister's boyfriend Brian

We also had quite a nice spread of other foods, including stuffing, sweat potatoes, cranberries (fresh and out of a can), rolls, salad, mashed potatoes, rutabaga, an artichoke/spinach casserole, and apple pie.

Dad, Mom, Amy's Grandma Helen, and her brother Greg (again!)

There was also the first public taste test of Cherry Chocolate Diet Dr Pepper. Initial reaction? Good. (My mom seemed to really enjoy it!)

We had a fun time and were really glad everything worked out. Now, on to hanging some Christmas lights!

Glad to hear that it all turned out yummy. Also glad to see you went with the oven bag. Yeah, it does cook faster... and no worries about moistness

I need a recipe for the spinach/artichoke casserole. That sounds yummy!

The recipe I used didn't turn out that great....but I am going to get a "successful" recipe from a client that has more CHEESE! Once I get it...I will pass it on!

That's too bad. I like spinach/artichoke dip and thought it might be similar. I'll be looking for that new recipe.
