NASCAR Kart Racing on Wii

Amy & I own a total of 2 games on our Wii.

Wii Sports (which comes with the Wii) and LEGO Star Wars. The limited selection is due to a self-imposed restriction on only getting games and accessories for "free". By free I mean with the Toys R Us gift cards we get each month as a perk for using our Toys R Us MasterCard.

Now, you have to remember that I didn't grow up with a videogame system. No Atari. No Nintendo. No PlayStation. So we're not big gamers, nor do we have the long love and history for characters like Mario, Zelda, and the like.

We like kart games, though our only experience has been on our PC version of LEGO Racer (which Amy dominates). We were looking for something in the racing genre for the Wii and spent some time evaluating Mario Kart... but frankly, it just wasn't for us. All the weird worlds and characters that we really have no attachment to.

Then NASCAR Kart Racing was announced, and it was highly described as a "Mario Kart ripoff". Which, from my experience, it pretty much is... but we're cool with that. Because there's a realism involved, while still having the kart experience. Also, since we follow NASCAR a little (Amy's mom and step-dad are huge fans), there is some familiarity.

Then again, we've only played it once... and Amy lost, which is never a good thing when it comes to marital bliss, but we'll see what happens

Here's part of the trailer...

Definitely looks fun.

Did you know the average game to console ratio for Wii is like 2 games per console. It's like the ever game console where you don't see people buying LOTS of games for it. Some of that is the Grandparent factor - grandparents buy the we for when junior comes to visit and jr brings his own games. Another factor is that Wii doesn't have "gamers games".

my family breaks that mold... we have 5-6 games at least (including puppy luv -ugggg how many "virtual pet" games do we need?)

Another funny takeaway from 2008 was the #1 purchased Wii game last year.... was Wii Play. It's a (not) so-so game, but comes with a WiiMote.

Steve: Last night, @AmySly & I fired up NASCAR Kart Racing on the Wii. It's like Mario Kart, but less Mario, which suits me just fine Tannerman Steve Tanner [Twitter] 0 February 19th, 2009 05:09 PM
