Coming Soon: Clue: The Office

You have to hand it to Hasbro. They sure know how to take a classic boardgame and license it to death. Case in point? Clue: The Office. Yes, yet another version of Clue. This is getting a little ridiculous with 24 Clue, Clue: Secrets & Spies, and who knows what else in the pipeline.

Clue: The Office is coming
(Source: eBay)

This version of Clue is based on the NBC comedy, The Office, which we proudly feature in The Viewliner forum over at TannerWorld Junction.

The official description?

"Six Employees, one Team Building Clue game, nine Office weapons! Michael Scott has called six of his Dunder Mifflin employees into work on a Saturday. Upon arrival they discover Toby (Michael's nemesis from HR) 'dead' in the lobby. Along with Toby are instructions for a mandatory Team Building game of CLUE in which the office workers must compete. The prize: an additional week of paid vacation for the winner! The employees must determine: WHO 'killed' Toby, with WHAT office weapon, and WHERE the crime occurred."

Estimated to be available July 2009.

I enjoy The Office and Clue, but this recent spat of licensed editions is really diluting the brand. I remember in the pre-crazy-Hasbro days when we enjoyed well-thought-out releases like Clue Master Detective (1988) and Clue: The Great Museum Caper (1991), and the occasional themed release like Scooby Doo Clue (1999). Now it's like Hasbro has taken the Monopoly licensing model and gone nuts with Clue!

Can NASCAR Clue or John Deere Clue be that far behind?

Looks like The Office version of Clue got a box design change vs. when we originally wrote about it:

Also, here are the weapons used in the game:
