It seems like everything on television these days is tied to a network. Just on the broadcast side we have ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, The WB, and UPN. But there was a time when a local television station was just that. No promotion of prime-time lineups or synergy with movie stars. It was simple programming to meet the needs of those in the local community.

Today's Merry Media Memories song, Suzy Snowflake, comes from this era. Here in Chicago, a trio of animated songs were shown every Christmas morning on WGN. Starting in 1953, they were featured on The Bozo Show and have in a small way, become part of the holiday television tradition here in the Windy City. The shorts are still played around Christmas time on WGN's morning news programs.

Historically considered to be created by a Chicago-based film house called Centaur Productions, "Suzy Snowflake" doesn't have much of a plot. Basically this stop-motion animated angel/fairy flies around with lots of other snowflakes. She makes snowmen and taps on windows. Frankly, it doesn't make much sense unless you see it visually. Luckily, someone has converted it to streaming video and it can be viewed by clicking here (RealMedia format).

wow....lots of flashes back to gramms east side Milwaukee home...

though the song is not my fav ggg...the memories are right up there gggg
