Two Shaggys. No Fred.

For Christmas, Amy purchased the Scooby-Doo version of Clue for me off eBay. This is one of the many themed special editions of the game. Released in 1999, it also is the only version of Clue where there isn't a murder.

The storyline is slightly different than your typical Clue game. Because of a rash of abductions, Mrs. White has invited Scooby-Doo and those Meddling Kids to her Haunted Mansion (not the one at Disneyland!) to impersonate the Clue game characters who have disappeared. Lo and behold, one of the gang turns up missing and it's up to the rest of the group to solve the mystery!

This version stars Daphne as Miss Scarlet, Scooby-Doo as Colonel Mustard, Fred as Mr. Green, Velma as Mrs. Peacock, Shaggy as Professor Plum, and Mrs. White as herself (how original).

We are also given a wild array of weapons this time around, including Funland Robot's Ray Gun, Carlotta's Spell Book, Frankenstein's Chain, Witch Doctor's Staff, Ghost Clown's Bomb, and Redbeard's Sword. I haven't watched a full version of the classic Scooby-Doo cartoon in quite a while, but I think I remember some of these items. (I refuse to watch that recent live-action version!).

Through an interesting twist on the original Clue gameboard, two traditional rooms have been converted into outdoor locations. In fact, the board reflects the original game pretty well, preserving the names and locations of the Conservatory, Billiard Room, Library, Dining Room, and Ballroom.

Noticeable changes include the Study becoming the Lounge, the Lounge becoming the Kitchen, the Kitchen becoming the Graveyard, and the Hall becoming the Courtyard. As is typical with Clue games released in North American, still no bathroom! (However, if you buy a version from Switzerland, you'll get one)

Since this game was out-of-print, Amy found an online dealer who sold it to her brand new, still in shrinkwrap. When I opened it on Christmas Day, however, it was interesting to discover that there were two Shaggy pawns and no Fred pawn! Eventually, Amy was able to contact the original manufacturer who mailed us a replacement part that just arrived the other day. Whew! After all that, I'm extremely thankful she tracked this down for me. It's very nice to own.

Anyone want to play Clue?
