This New Tanner Condo - Episode 4

Hey, it's the return of This New Tanner Condo... welcome to Episode 4! This is the (kinda) frequent Web series that keeps tabs on the improvements undertaken by Steve and Amy Tanner in their recently-purchased condo. (Catch the reruns: Episode 1, Episode 2, and Episode 3).

In this episode, Steve and Amy celebrate the joys of home ownership as they replace their dishwasher! It seems the couple has been having trouble with various appliances. After first having a repair technician assess trouble in the couple's funky stove, Steve and Amy looked to their dishwasher.

Old clunky Whirlpool dishwasher

The unit was original with the condo and pretty much ran like it. Frankly, these homeowners got tired of washing dishes after they had been already run through the dishwasher. There were also other factors as play, such as flexibility to wash certain items, energy efficiency, and the fact that the heating elements were pretty much shot. So, as a sale appeared at a local store, the couple went out and purchased a replacement dishwasher.

After removing the bottom panel, a body falls out
(Actually, that's just Dad!)

Of course, in order to put a new unit in place, the old must be removed. Therefore, the homeowners called in Master Carpenter, Technician, Problem Solver, and All Around Great Dad, Mr. John Tanner, to assist with the project. At the same time, Steve got a great lesson on how the heck these things actually worked. First tip: Turn off the power to the dishwasher before working on it!

Separated unit ready for disposal

In roughly 30 minutes, the dishwasher was properly unhooked and rolled into the middle of the Tanner kitchen, ready to be picked up by the delivery folks of the new unit. During this project, once again it was discovered that "unique construction" took place when building this condo. This time around it was the configuration of plumbing to accommodate both the dishwasher and garbage disposal. Never a dull moment under the sink!

Vacant space... needs a little cleaning

In our next episode of This New Tanner Condo, the new dishwasher gets installed! Also, we might even show you the rest of the kitchen. Stay tuned.

Do you want to come and do it?!?

I got home from work last night at 7 pm after driving in my car for a total of 3 hours (with a 45 min. stop in the middle) and felt totally exhausted and overwhelmed! So, it didn't get cleaned up last night!!!

My dad and I replaced our dishwasher about a year ago, and it was very gross under ours as well.

I don't believe he said that you had to. You aren't the only one that lives there.

One of the first things I did when we moved into our condo was replace the broken, rusty dishwasher. Because none of the parts from the old one matched the new one, it took five days including a trip to the hardward store every day.

It doesn't really matter if it gets cleaned since a new dishwasher is going in the same spot and NO one will see the floor (until the dishwasher breaks down in umpteen years)

That would probably be my philosophy!
