Live from Orlando 2006 - Part 33

In case you didn't know, Coca-Cola is the official beverage of the Walt Disney World Resort.

This is why they have an entire sponsored "attraction" in Epcot. It's also why we couldn't find any Pepsi products during our stay.

This was not a good thing.

The current Mountain Dew logo

For those who don't know, my boss Karl Bastian, the Kidologist, pretty much lives on Mountain Dew. While I debate with him all the time regarding the negative health aspects of this, it pretty much boils down to the fact that Kidology is "powered by Dew".

Out at our "corporate offices" in the suburbs, we have a fridge pretty much stocked with it at all times (original and Code Red; Karl isn't much of a fan of the other flavors: LiveWire, Pitch Black, or Pitch Black II -- I'm not sure where he stands on the Taco Bell-exclusive Baja Blast).

Mountain Dew is a Pepsi product. WDW doesn't stock Pepsi. Thus the problem.

Hess station at Walt Disney World

When we first arrived at Walt Disney World, we took a bus over to Downtown Disney and had dinner. Then, in a quest to find Mountain Dew, we walked quite a bit to a Hess gas station located on Disney property. Hess is the "Official Fuel Supplier" of Walt Disney World. I've never heard of them, but apparently they've been the sponsor since 2004 (succeeding Exxon in the role). It didn't matter. The "Disney Coke Nazis" had taken over the gas station as well, banning all non-Coke products from being sold.

Karl begs for Dew from his "stalker"

Fortunately, we had connections. A big Kidology fan (who we've previously nicknamed "The Kidologist Stalker" at CPC Atlanta in 2005) lives near Tampa Bay and was attending the Orlando CPC. She was kind enough to smuggle some of the banned substance onto Disney property.

With Dew in his possession, Karl was set to brave the evils of an "All Coke World" while on Disney property. I know once he had his Dew, we all exhaled with a huge sigh of relief!
