Dr. Pepper Coffee

What happens when you make yucky hotel coffee with Dr. Pepper instead of water? Keep reading and I'll let ya know!

Hotel coffee pot and Dr. Pepper!

On a recent trip, I was checking our hotel room to see if there was a mini coffeemaker 'cause I'm one of those people who enjoys a cup of coffee in the mornings (much to Steve's chagrin since he's not a coffee drinker). Usually, I bring my own flavored powdered creamer with on trips due to the lack of flavor in hotel coffee. Since I didn't have my creamer with me, Steve says, "I read on the Internet somewhere that making coffee with Dr. Pepper will improve the taste of hotel coffee." The things he reads on the Internet!! Funny how when we got home, he couldn't find that reference anywhere! Was it all in his head?!

Anyway, I decided that I'd try it and see how it tasted. It seemed kinda weird to be pouring a whole 20 ounce bottle of Dr. Pepper into that hotel coffee maker. But, upon tasting the concoction, I was surprised and impressed! The coffee had a cherry flavor to it, brought out by the flavors in the Dr. Pepper. It also was quite effervescent since it was made with a fresh bottle of DP and still had a lot of carbonation in it.

Interestingly, I was sharing this story with a friend and she told me about how she likes to drink Dr. Pepper warm. Turns out, the official Dr. Pepper website recommends this as well. They suggest heating up the drink and pouring it over a small slice of lemon. Interesting. Maybe I'll try that next!

That is crazy!

I kinda threw up in my own mouth a little bit when I read about the DP...

As one who has had to endure the stares and taunts at coffee kiosks when I order just normal coffee, I could never get into flavored coffee. But to take a cold, carbonated soft drink and brew it...well, that's just not smurfy!

(and the fact that I just typed the word "smurfy" tells me I could use a cup of coffee.....or a full eight hours sleep)
