Water fun on Lake Webster
As I mentioned in the Boat Church story, over this past weekend, Amy and I visited with my sister and her boyfriend at his house on a lake in Indiana.
![]() Dusk clouds over Lake Webster One of the advantages of living on Lake Webster is that he has a boat dock. And where you find a boat dock you'll often find a boat. And Brian has a nice boat! So on Saturday we enjoyed many hours of fun on the water. ![]() Brian skis in the wake I'm not typically a big watersports guy. I think this has to do with the fact that I wear glasses. (I tried contacts for a few years, but my eyes are genetically too dry to make them work -- bring on LASIK!) Kinda hard to see and have fun when you move from 4 eyes to 2! ![]() Karen & Steve get ready for tubing As for waterskiing? Well, my double jointed limbs have never really been successful with this, so I stuck to tubing. There's nothing quite like being yanked around a lake while you are flopping around like a rag doll! Watch video via YouTube Steve (yellow) & Amy (purple) on the tubes... ... followed by Steve (yellow) & Karen (purple) After we got the tubing thing out the way, the "real" lake folks took over. Brian showed off his stuff on the skis, with my sister not doing too bad either. They both made Amy and I look bad! ![]() ![]() See, this guy knows what he's doing ![]() Karen about to say "hit it!" ![]() My sis holds her own After the skiing fun, we took a ride on somewhat of a historical icon found on Lake Webster, the Dixie. ![]() The "Dixie" ![]() Yes, the paddlewheel actually works! You see, the Dixie is Indiana's oldest sternwheeler riverboat, built in 1929. It still sails around the lake on tours a couple times a day. ![]() Brian & Karen ![]() Amy & Steve Thanks to Brian, we all got to ride the boat at the end of the day. We learned quite a bit about all the history it had and how it was tied to the local community. In fact, they are trying to raise money to further refurbish the Dixie. ![]() Steve gets to blow the whistle on the "Dixie" Because of this, lots of "super important" historical claims were made by the captain during the tour. Some of these got to be rather ridiculous, so we started joking about the whole thing. "The Magna Carta was signed on the Dixie!"... "NASA practiced the moon landing by using the Dixie."... "The Civil War started with a shot fired over the Dixie!" ![]() Karen, the pirate? We really enjoyed trying some new adventures... like hanging out with a pirate? As most of you know (because I blogged about it), Karen got a nose ring a while back. Well, before the weekend, she took it out because of an interview and sort of lost it. So just for fun, to keep her nose hole from closing in, she wondered what would happen if you stuck an earring in there instead. Needless to say, it looked pretty goofy... which pretty much summed up our fun time. Thanks Brian & Karen! |

Sounds fun! I am not a big fan of tubing, but I love to water ski. It has been a long time since I have done it though.
